Mixed Seafood Platter
This elegant mixed seafood platter, ideal for a special occasion or a fancy dinner, serves 4 people.
Ingredients:
- 500 g fresh mussels, cleaned and beards removed
- 400 g shrimp, peeled and deveined (leave a few with heads on for presentation)
- 2 large lobster tails, cut in half
- 300 g crab claws, cracked
- 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 red chili pepper, finely chopped (optional, for a touch of heat)
- 200 ml white wine
- 100 g unsalted butter
- Fresh lemon wedges, for serving
- Fresh parsley, finely chopped, for garnish
- Olive oil, for drizzling
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Crusty bread, for serving
Instructions:
- Prepare the seafood: Rinse all seafood under cold water and set aside. Make sure to remove any sand or grit from the mussels.
- Cook the mussels: In a large pan, heat a bit of olive oil over medium heat. Add half of the minced garlic and chili pepper, if using. Sauté for about 1 minute. Add the mussels, pour in the white wine, and cover the pan with a lid. Let the mussels steam for 5-7 minutes until they open up. Discard any that remain closed.
- Cook the shrimp: In another pan, melt half of the butter over medium heat. Add the remaining minced garlic and shrimp. Sauté until the shrimp turn pink and are cooked through, about 3-5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Prepare the lobster and crab: Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Arrange the lobster tails and crab claws on a baking sheet. Brush with melted butter and season with salt, pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the lobster meat is opaque and the crab is heated through.
- Assemble the platter: On a large serving plate, arrange the cooked mussels, shrimp, lobster tails, and crab claws. Garnish with fresh parsley and lemon wedges.
- Serve: Drizzle some extra olive oil over the seafood and serve with crusty bread for dipping in the flavorful juices.
